Mothers-in-law called Margaret named Britain's worst

London, De 26 (ANI): Mothers-in-law called Margaret have been voted Britain's worst in a new poll.

The survey of more than 4,000 men discovered that there were more complaints about mothers-in-law called Margaret than any other name.

Other names to fare badly were Anne who was second, Betty in third, Carol who came fourth and Sue who was fifth worst.

In the poll, the men not only revealed their in-law's most irritating traits and the funniest jokes about them but also uncovered a string of stories about mothers-in-law.

The study, carried out by Internet market research site www.onepoll.com, found 46 per cent of men dislike or hate their mother-in-law and four in 10 want them to 'butt out of their lives'.

Moaning, incessant talking, constant nagging and unfair demands were voted their worst traits, with one in 10 wishing bad things would happen to her.

"It is incredible that after all these years mothers-in-law still have a reputation for being despised. They can be the bane of a man's life, but they can also be wonderful, fun-loving people - if you're lucky. We were surprised Margaret came top. It sounds like such a nice name," the Telegraph quoted a spokesman for the site, as saying.

In the survey, it was found that men spend an average of 50 minutes in the company of their mothers-in-law before losing their patience.

One in five men said they would consider moving away or shutting off any communication with their partner's mother in a bid to stay sane.

The survey also found mothers-in-law ring too much - averaging three times a week and then talking for over an hour each time.

Four visits a month was also deemed too much for the average man to handle.

Three in 10 couples dread the thought of spending Christmas with a mother-in-law. Yet 65 per cent would not dare complain to their mother-in-law for fear of reprisals. (ANI)
