London, Dec 24 (ANI): Nottingham City Council is on a drive to remove signs which state that it is legal to urinate in the city's streets after 7.30pm.

The signs, which were put up by a prankster in and around the city, appear official.

The signs feature a male toilet sign and are accompanied by a letter, saying it is legal to urinate in the street after 7.30pm.

The letter, which is laminated and is headed with the logo of Nottingham City Council, added that signs were part of a scheme to reduce the mess faced by residents outside their homes.

And now the City Council has asked people to ignore these signs as it sets about removing them.

"It is an offence to urinate in public and these signs have been put up illegally, for whatever reason," The Telegraph quoted a spokeswoman for the authority as saying.

She added: "We would urge people to ignore them, otherwise they could find themselves inadvertently facing a prosecution.

"We are taking the signs down as quickly as possible and if anyone spots one of the illegal signs we ask them to please contact the city council on 0115 915 2000 so they can be removed." (ANI)
