The 30-share BSE Sensex fell 171.56 points or 1.7 per cent, to close at 9,928.35, after hitting an intraday high of 10,173.34 and low of 9,894.01. The 50-share NSE Nifty settled below 3050 level. It closed at 3039.30, down 1.24 per cent or 38.20 from previous close. It swung nearly 83 points between a high/low of 3110.45 and 3027.80, respectively.
Market tests 10k; Midcap, smallcap gain
The markets lack direction. Reliance Industries, ICICI Bank, BHEL, HDFC, M&M, Maruti, Hero Honda, TCS, and Infosys are dragging the benchmark indices, while ONGC, SBI, DLF, Unitech, Reliance Communications, Bharti Airtel, Tata Motors, L&T, Tata Steel, Reliance Infrastructure, and Satyam are lending support. The Sensex tested 10000 mark.
The Sensex went down 46 points to 10,053 and the Nifty lost 8 points to 3,069, at 1.39 hours IST. However, BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices gained 0.8-1.1 per cent.
Market breadth is positive; about 1712 shares have advanced while 1073 shares have declined. Nearly 416 shares are unchanged.
Mumbai, Dec 22: The markets are witnessing volatility; as buying is seen in DLF, ONGC, Unitech, L&T, SBI, Reliance Communication, Tata Motors, Tata Steel, SAIL and Reliance Infrastructure. However, selling continues in Wipro, TCS, Infosys, ICICI Bank, Reliance Industries, HDFC, Sterlite Industries, Maruti and Bharti.
The Sensex fell 34 points to 10,066 and the Nifty lost just 1.25 points and is at 3,076, at 10.42 hours IST. The Sensex rose and the BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices gained 1.5-2 per cent.
Markets quite; Unitech, M&M, Tata Motors up
Mumbai, Dec 22: The markets are quite in early trade on account of some volatility. At 9:56 am, the Sensex rose just 1.17 points to 10,101 and the Nifty gained 3.10 points at 3,080. CNX Midcap went up 0.6 per cent to 3,790.
Reliance Industries, Idea, Reliance Infrastructure, HDFC Bank, Hero Honda, BPCL, Infosys, Satyam, HCL Tech, TCS, ICICI Bank, and Bharti Airtel are seeing selling pressure. However, Unitech, M&M, Tata Motors, Cairn, Suzlon Energy, DLF, SBI, Tata Steel, HDFC, NTPC, SAIL, ONGC, and L&T are supporting the markets.
