Alert sounded in Sindh province as Muharram approaches
Karachi, Dec.22 (ANI): Fearing militant attack on the occasion of Muharram the Intelligence agencies and law enforcement committees in Pakistan are on high alert.
The agencies have also prepared a list of 5,000 suspected terrorists
Strict vigilance and monitoring is underway in Sindh and especially in Karachi to thwart any potential terrorist activity.
As Muharram gets closer, suspected militants are being monitored for links with banned organizations as they might be in contact with the Taliban and Al-Qaeda.
"The situation cannot be taken lightly as the whole country, particularly Karachi, is under a cloud of fear and uncertainty as the terrorists can strike anywhere, anytime," The Daily Times quoted SSP Crime Investigation Department (CID) Fayyaz Khan, as saying.
"We are ready to face potential terrorist activity and the citizens should not be fearful. We will give it our best shot and fulfill our obligations to the best of our abilities," he added.
Though the law enforcement agencies are on high alert, the government is not considering arresting members of the banned outfits until specific information is received. (ANI)
