Pentagon working on possibilities to provide more security aid to Pakistan
Washington, Dec. 20 (ANI): The Pentagon is working on a proposal to provide additional security assistance to Pakistan to support its war on terror along its Afghan border.
A senior United States Department of Defence official said that the proposal for new assistance for Pakistan came from Central Command (CENTCOM) and was at early stages, a Daily TImes report said. The proposed funding would be addition to the existing programmes, including the coalition support fund and foreign military financing.
"Right now we've got, you know, in addition to the coalition support fund and the foreign military financing, there is a proposal coming out of CENTCOM to provide some additional kinds of financial assistance that would assist the Pakistani military in their counter-terrorism operations," Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said at a briefing.
"But this is just a proposal at this point, hasn't gotten to the secretary and hasn't been briefed to the Congress. I think it's in the conceptual stages and I don't have really anything further beyond that," Geoff Morrell added.(ANI)
