UK lawmakers mock Brown over saving the world' comment
London, Dec.11 (ANI): Opposition lawmakers in the House of Commons ridiculed Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Wednesday for stating that he had "saved the world".
Brown made a slip of the tongue remark as he defended his response to the financial crisis.
"The first point of recapitalisation was to save banks that would otherwise have collapsed," he said.
According to The Sun, he then meant to say: "We not only saved the banks..." but instead blurted out: "We not only saved the world..."
Gales of laughter erupted from the Opposition benches.
And Tory leader David Cameron made hay by saying: "Well, it's now on the record. He's so busy talking about saving the world, he has forgotten about the businesses of this country."
The PM hit back: "The Opposition may not like the fact that we led the world in saving the banking system. But we did." (ANI)
