London, Dec 9 (ANI): Bored Brit housewives spend most of their leisure hours surfing the Internet, according to a new survey.
Digital World, Digital Life - a study into how people spend their leisure time, - found British housewives spend almost half their free time (47 percent) on the net, a higher proportion than workers, the unemployed and even students.
And British housewives are bigger users of the Internet than their counterparts in the 15 other countries.
The researcher, TNS, said UK adults aged 18-24 now spend 32 percent of their leisure time on the net, up from the national average of 28 percent.
According to the study, most people log on to the Internet to search for information, do their banking and visit news websites.
Visiting price comparison websites, watching video clips on sites such as YouTube and bidding for products on auction websites like eBay are among other popular online activities.
However, only eight per cent of people admit to using their free time to visit dating websites, and just seven per cent of people contribute to blogs while online.
Arno Hummerston, managing director of TNS Global Interactive, said using the Internet should not be considered a time-wasting activity.
"By spending productive time online, we are actually making more time for leisure," the Telegraph quoted Hummerston, as saying. (ANI)
