Santiniketan, Nov 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, also the Chancellor of Viswa-Bharati University, has accepted the seven names forwarded by the university for Desi-Kattama while rejecting the one of former Bhutan King Jigme Sigme Wangchuk.
University sources here today said the Academic and Executive councils had suggested eight names to the PMO for Desi-Kattama (Honorary Doctorate), out of which the name of the former Bhutan King was not approved.
Confidential sources said approval of the External Affairs Ministry is essential for awarding doctorate to a foreign national, which the university skipped and instead directly approached the PMO.
This is for the first time that a name has been rejected as all the requests are accepted every year.
The Prime Minister will participate in the convocation of the university scheduled on December six.
