Chandigarh, Nov 30 (UNI) Ludhiana, Bathinda and hosts Taran Tarn today qualified for quarter-finals of the 30th Punjab State Junior (Under-19) Football Championship being held at Khadoor Sahib.
A four-in-a-row by Arun Singh steered Ropar into the last eight at the expense of Bathinda whom they routed 4-0 in a pre-quarter-final encounter.
Bathinda put up some initial resistance but once their goal fell in the 34th minute, the match turned out to be a one-sided affair.
It virtually became Bathinda vs Arun Singh who struck in the 34th, 47th, 50th and 87th minutes.
Qualifier Taran Tarn maintained their winning spree as they ousted Patiala 2-0. The winners scored one goal in each half.
Mehnga Singh and Dilraj Singh scored in the 31st and 65th minutes, respectively.
In the third pre-quarter-final match, Ludhiana defeated Barnala 2-0. Both goals were scored in the first half.
Arjun Singh put Ludhiana ahead in the first minute while Mandeep Singh doubled the margin in the 16th minute.
Following protest and counter-protest the result of the pre-quarter-final match between Hoshirapur and Sangrur was withheld.
Both teams made allegations against each other that they had fielded overage players.
Meanwhile, Hoshiarpur 'defeated' Sangrur with an aggregate 11-10 margin in sudden death after playing a 2-2 draw in the regulation period.
Their winners will play Ludhiana in the quarter-final. Line-up for other quarter-finals include Ropar vs Taran Tarn; Faridkot v Kapurthala and Jalandhar vs Gurdaspur.
