29 per cent polled in 5 assembly segments
Kupwara, Nov 30: About 29 per cent polling was recorded during the first four hours in the five assembly constituencies, spread over this border district, amid unprecedented security arrangements and boycott call given by the Coordination Committee (CC), spearheading the anti-poll campaign in the valley.
The polling was so far peaceful, officials said.
The highest 28 per cent of polling was recorded in Handwara followed by 27 in Karnah, 25 in Kupwara and 22 per cent each in Lolab and Langate.
Earlier, the polling began on a very dull note with some polling stations in the Kupwara constituency waiting over 30 minutes to get the first voter.
However, voters, including women, could be seen marching towards polling station in other constituencies, bordering Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).
At some polling booths set up in Keran and Karnah, voters were waiting outside the booths before the start of the polling at 0800 hrs.
