RJD pays homage to V P, describes him as champion of social justice

Patna, Nov 29 (UNI) The RJD today paid homage to former prime minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh, describing him as a champion of the cause of backward classes and weaker sections of the society.

RJD leaders and workers paid tribute to the former prime minister at a meeting organised here, in the state party headquarters.

Speaking on the occasion, the RJD MP Ram Kripal Yadav, recalled the contributions of the departed leader, in uplifting the conditions of the under-privileged and the down trodden. His determination in mainstreamising them, led to the implementation of the Mandal commission's recommendations, when V P Singh was the Prime Minister, he added.

Expressing another facet of his personality, Chief Whip of the RJD in Bihar Legislative assembly Ramchandra Purve, said the departed leader was a crusader against the prevailing corruption at the political and administrative level.

At the peak of his political career, the former prime minister faught against corruption and even made it an important issue in the 1989 Lok Sabha elections.

State general secretary of the party and MLC Ram Bachan Rai, leader of the Opposition in Bihar Legislative Council Ghulam Gaus and the party MLA Ramanuj Prasad were among others, who paid tribute to the departed leader.
