New projects to be named after great leaders
Hyderabad, Nov 29 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet today decided to name major irrigation projects after great leaders.
The Cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, decided to name the Rs 38,500-crore ''Pranahita-Chevalla Sujala Sravanthi'' after Constitution architect B R Ambedkar and the Dummagudem project after noted social reformer Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, official sources said.
The Cabinet decided to name the Telugu Ganga and Pulivendulu irrigation projects after former Chief Ministers N T Rama Rao and K Vijayabhaskara Reddy respectively, and Galeru Nagari Sujala Shravanthi after medieval king Krishnadevaraya, whose regime was considered as the golden age.
In a major decision to benefit Scheduled Tribes living in plains, the Cabinet decided to constitute a Development Board exclusive for them on the lines of Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) formed for STs residing in hilly areas.
The Board would ensure coordination among the departments of Agriculture, Education, Health, Minor Irrigation and Employment generation to cover the areas uncovered by the ITDA.
The Cabinet approved the bill to replace the ordinance for increasing the period of restriction for moving No-Confidence motion against Mayors and Chairpersons of Urban local bodies from three years to four years.
