Dausa, Nov 29 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati today reiterated that her party favoured reservation to economically backward classes in unreserved higher castes without affecting benefits being extended to SCs, STs, OBCs and other reserved classes.
Addressing an election meeting in favour of the party nominees here, Ms Mayawati alleged that the Congress as well as the BJP practised caste-based politics which divided society.
She said that her party was committed to greater social unity and harmony and wanted to extend benefits to poor sections in higher castes without disturbing present benefits to reserved classes.
Her party also wanted to ensure greater participation of Muslims in main stream political affairs, Ms Mayawati said.
The party would take necessary action in this connection whenever attained power at the Centre, she said.
Ms Mayawati is on four-day campaign trail for the December 4 Assembly polls in this state since Thursday. Her party has fielded candidates in 199 of the 200 constituencies.
