Haryana sets target to sow wheat in 24.25 lakh hectare

Chandigarh, Nov 29 (UNI) Haryana Agriculture Department has set a target to sow wheat in 24.25 lakh hectare area, out of which 20 lakh hectare area has already been covered during the current Rabi season.

Rabi sowing was progressing well in the state and the target would be easily met, a spokesman of the Agriculture Department said here.

He said that the maximum target area under pulses and oilseeds had also been achieved so far. Out of total target area of 1.60 lakh hectare to cultivate Gram, 1.30 lakh hectares had been achieved and out of 0.45 lakh hectares to cultivate Barley, 0.37 lakh hectares had been covered so far.

The spokesman informed that the department had set a target of sowing other Rabi Pulses in 0.20 lakh hectare area and oilseed in 6.50 lakh hectare during the current Rabi season, out of which 0.10 and 6.25 lakh hectare area had been covered by other Rabi pulses and oilseed respectively.

Target of sowing of sunflower in 0.40 lakh hectare area had been set for the current Rabi season but its sowing would commence in the month of February, he added.
