Gurgaon, Nov 29 (UNI) The Gurgaon Police today introduced a unique SMS service under which anyone could file his complaint or lodge an FIR through SMS and also launched the official website.

Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal, while presenting the service before representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWA), said a message to Gurgaon Police can be sent on toll free number 0124-100, pre-fixed with the dialing STD code of Gurgaon.

He said a person in distress can send a short message to the Gurgaon police and after that the officials would call him back and reach the spot immediately.

He said the time taken by police officials in reaching the spot after receiving an SMS would be recorded.

He also launched the official website of Gurgaon Police and said all the information pertaining to police in Gurgaon was now just a click away.

''Now anybody can know the status of his complaint, passport or service verification by going on the website-gurgaonpolice.net, first of its kind in the country, where complaints and FIR can be lodged online,'' he said.

Mr Lal said the contact numbers of all police officers, forms and applications for obtaining various licences were available on the website.

Referring to community policing, Mr Lal said he was in favour of empowering the RWAs and to strengthen the structure of community policing.

The RWAs would be involved in passport verification, traffic management and security of their areas.

The schedule of police patrolling would also be shared with the RWAs and on their advice more police can be deputed at critical places, the Police Commissioner maintained.
