Four municipal areas to go to polls tomorrow
Kolkata, Nov 29 (UNI) The Municipal General Elections to Howrah Municipal Corporation, Krishnagar, Jhargram and Berhampore Municipalities, as well as by-elections to a number of other municipalities, will be held tomorrow.
Altogether 9,86,000 voters will exercise their franchise in 1,165 polling stations, a statement issued here today by the State Election Commission said.
By-elections will be held in some wards of Purulia, Gayeshpur, Tamluk, Contai and Tarakeshwar municipaities.
Similarly, 15 Gram Panchayat and two Panchayat Samiti constituencies, where polling was countermanded during the last Panchayat elections held in May this year, will go to the polls, where about 2,000 electors will exercise their franchise in 24 polling stations.
The State Election Commission issued necessary directions to the district administration to ensure that no trouble-makers were allowed to enter the poll-bound areas.
A special drive was also being carried out to frisk the vehicles entering the city or block areas for illegal weapons and ammunition.
Besides, adequate security arrangements, with armed police personnel, have been made to facilitate peaceful poll.
