Tikamgarh (MP), Nov 28: Tension prevailed in Jatara town and other places in this district of Madhya Pradesh after former minister and BJP MLA Sunil Nayak was shot dead after elections near Prithvipur town yesterday.
The body of the BJP candidate from Prithvipur was brought at his native Jatara town from Jhansi late last night and it would be cremated this afternoon.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is likely to attend the funeral, while former chief minister and Bhartiya Jan Shakti chief Uma Bharat met the bereaved family this morning to condole his death.
Due to heightened tension in Jatara town, police security has been beefed up, official sources said, adding curfew clamped in Prithvipur town after Mr Nayak was shot at the close of polls yesterday continued and no relaxation was given today.
An irate mob attempted to damage three vehicle at Jatara today, police said.
A minister in Uma Bharti cabinet, Mr Nayak is survived by his father, wife, a son and two daughters.
Immediately after he was shot at allegedly by his Congress rival Brijendra Singh Rathore's brother Yashpal Singh at Nayakhera village following an argument over booth-capturing, he was taken in a critical condition to Jhansi Medical College, where he was declared brought dead. Yashpal Singh had already been arrested.
