Security along Karnataka coastline beefed up
Mangalore, Nov 28 (UNI) Following the terrorist attacks in Mumbai, security along the 350 km coastline, covering three districts of Daxina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada, has been beefed up today.
A high-level meeting of security agencies, attended by top officials from police, Coast Guard, CISF, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) and other important stake holders yesterday decided here to have joint patrolling in shallow waters with the help of Coast Guard and CISF boats, the sources said.
The meeting took a decision to take the help of aircraft for deep-sea water patrolling by Coast Guard with its vessels from Mangalore to Karwar.
The meeting took the decision that local police would launch round the clock surveillance of all minor ports, including Malpe Fisheries Port near Udupi to intercept any suspiciously moving vessels or boats along the coast while the NMPT would take up perimeter patrolling.
The meeting had also asked the Old Mangalore Port authorities here to issue identity cards (Smart Cards) to all fishing boats.
The meeting also sought the cooperation by the Coastal Police Security Force to intensify and complete the security surveillance process by December 31.
