Record entries for Wilson Jones snooker tourney

Mumbai, Nov 28 (UNI) The Fourth Wilson Jones Memorial All India Open snooker and billiards tournament, which begins from December 1 has received a big boost, both in terms of prize money and entries.

Shyam Kotak, the organiser of the tournament said that in snooker alone they have received 256 participants, while in billiards there are 162 entrants.

Many of the prominent national ranked players from metro cities like Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai as well as from Gujarat, Pune and Nagpur will also feature in this event, Mr Kotak added.

The event, sponsored by Rosy Blue, carries prize money to the tune of over Rs two lakhs, with the winner alone taking home Rs 25,000 each in snooker and billiards events. The tournament begins with snooker event from December first. The hosts hope to rope in additional sponsors by way of co-sponsorship, banners and other such strategies to enhance the prize money to the players.

This being the 50th year of legendry Wilson Jones world billiards title - the first by an Indian to do so in any sport, the event assumes special significance as the Hindu Gymkhana would be commemorating the occasion on December 10, when some of the stalwarts like Michael Ferriera, Geet Sethi and Devendra Joshi will be among those, who will be participating in the celebrations, Mr Kotak added.
