Shillong, Nov 28 (UNI) Meghalaya Chief Minister Donkupar Roy has mooted the idea of setting up a commercial tissue culture production centre in the state.
During a meeting with Union Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibbal here yesterday, Dr Roy underscored the importance of setting up the commercial tissue culture production centre to cater to the growth of Agriculture and Horticulture industries.
The Chief Minister also sought the help of Mr Sibbal to support the state government for induction of technology to eradicate the problems of drinking water at the village and community level.
Highlighting the need to provide adequate weather forecasting system and telemetry stations in the state, Dr Roy apprised the Union Minister of the problems occurring in the villages bordering Bangladesh.
The Chief Minister also stressed on the immediate need to strengthen Science education in the state so that maximum benefits can be achieved through Science and Technology for all round development of the state.
In this regard, Dr Roy placed a range of proposals and suggestions for the activities and programmes that could be taken up by the Science and Technology Ministry in the State.
The Union Minister informed the Chief Minister that all efforts are being made to support the State in the development of Science and Technology.
Mr Sibbal informed the Chief Minister on the proposed plan to set up a science and technology regional facility at Shillong to cater to the entire region.
The Ministry would also strengthen the Science teaching infrastructure in colleges and support the dissemination of science related information in educational institutions, Mr Sibbal added.
