Maintain close coordination, Dy CEC to poll machinery

Srinagar, Nov 28 (UNI) Stressing need for close coordination among different agencies engaged in conducting polls in five assembly segments in Kupwara district, going to polls on Sunday, Deputy Chief Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya today assured free, fair and peaceful elections.

Reviewing poll arrangements at a high level meeting of officers of civil and police administration at Kupwara, Mr Bhattacharya stressed the need for close coordination between district administration and security agencies for the smooth and peaceful conduct of elections.

He asked to officers to follow the guidelines framed by the Election Commission for ensuring free and fair elections.

Mr Bhattacharya also stressed on imparting EVM training and awareness about poll-related responsibilities to the polling staff so that they would not face any difficulty on the polling day.

He asked for maintaining better liaison between polling staff and Sectoral Magistrates to avoid any difficulty.

The Deputy CEC asked the security agencies to ensure fool-proof security arrangements to the polling staff and voters during the election day and follow the election guidelines in letter and spirit.

The state Chief Electoral Officer, who was also present in the meeting stressed on imparting necessary election related training to staff, so that they can ensure free and fair elections.

He called for ensuring adequate transport, boarding and lodging arrangements for the polling staff.
