Delhi: Jaiswal visits Mumbai to monitor situation

New Delhi, Nov 28: Even as the terror attacks in Mumbai entered the 42nd hour with encounters continuing at three places, Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal left for the metropolis to oversee the anti-terror operations jointly launched by the NSG commandos with the help of the Army, Navy and police.

Mr Jaiswal left for Mumbai this morning to have an assessment of the situation, Home Ministry sources said here today. They said the situation is being constantly monitored even as the death toll has gone to 125 while over 327 people have been injured.

Earlier, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and leader of Opposition L K Advani had visited Mumbai yesterday evening. Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi too visited the Taj Hotel this morning and announced an ex-gratia of Rs one crore for the police and security personnel who laid their lives defending the nation.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil had sent 200 NSG commandos and himself visited Mumbai on the intervening night of November 26-27 when the terrorists had launched an unprecedented attack on the metropolis creating havoc.
