Chennai, Nov 28 (UNI) The Madras High Court today granted bail to Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader and Vanniyar Sangam president Kaduvetti Guru alias Gurunathan in a attempt-to-murder case.
Meensuruti Police in Ariyalur District of Tamil Nadu registered a case against Guru following a complaint Gunasekaran of AIADMK.
In his complaint, Gunasekaran claimed that Guru and his men attacked him on May one with deadly weapons and abused him using filthy language.
Following a non-bailable warrant issued by Jayamkondam Judicial Magistrate Court, the police arrested him. He was lodged in Tiruchirapalli Prison.
Subsequently, he was slapped with a case for allegedly making provocative speech against DMK leaders at the district general body meeting of the PMK at Ariyalur.
He was detained under National Security Act (NSA). The detention was upheld by the Madras High Court on November 18.
On Wednesday, the Tamil Nadu Government revoked the detention of Guru under the NSA.
Guru had filed the bail petition in the attempt-to-murder case in the High Court.
When the petition came up for hearing, Justice T Sudanthiram granted him bail on the condition that he should furnish a surety for Rs 10,000 and another two sureties for like sum each.
The judge also directed Guru to appear before the concerned police as and when required.
