New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) The Delhi High Court has declined to waive off Rs 10 lakh penalty slapped on controversial tantrik Chandraswami alias Nemi Chand Jain.
The Enforcement Director (ED) had imposed the fine on him in a FERA violation case in 2004.
The controversial tantrik moved the high court challenging a single Judge's order which had dismissed his plea.
Hearing Chandraswami's petition yesterday, a Division Bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S Muralidhar ordered the plea dismissed.
Concurring with the findings of a tribunal as well as the single Judge, the Judges said ''cogent reasons have been given by both the tribunal as well as the single Judge to our satisfaction.'' In 2004, the ED had imposed a penalty of Rs 10 lakh each on Chandraswami and another co-accused Vikram Singh for illegally transferring 1,49,000 dollars from the account of an NRI Akbar Veerjee from the R K Puram branch of Canara Bank in contravention of the RBI guidelines in 1992.
