Chitra K Soman honoured with Jimmy George award

Kannur, Nov 28 (UNI) Olympian Chitra K Soman of Kottayam has been selected for the 21st Jimmy George Foundation Award, 2008 for her contributions to athletics.

The award, carrying a purse of Rs 10,000 and a citation, would be presented to Chitra in the last week of December by former hockey Olympian Manuel Fedricks. The award function will be held in Peravoor, the birthplace of Jimmy George, who was the first professional volleyball player from India. He was killed in an accident at Italy in 1987.

The award selection committee comprised Jose George as chairman, former Olympian Suresh Babu, Robert Bobby George, T Devaprasad and Sabastian George.
