Carborandum signs MoU with Volvograd administration
Chennai, Nov 28 (UNI) Carborandum Universal Limited (CUMI), a constituent of the Murugappa Group today signed an MoU with the administration of the Volvograd Region of Russia represented by First Deputy Governor Mr Y I Sizov for setting up a 100, 000 tonne SiC Fusion Plant at a cost of about USD 50 million through its Subsidiary Volzhsky Abrasive Works, Volvograd Region.
The proposed new plant would have environment friendly fusion technology and high energy efficiency. Volvograd Region would support this project by way of arranging power supply, raw material supply and suitable land. This project is expected to be implemented in phases which would provide direct and indirect employment to over 500 people in the region, a company release here said.
Carborandum Universal Limited had acquired Volzhsky Abrasive Works, Volvograd in September 2007. CUMI operates 18 plants in India and six overseas, it said.
With this addition, CUMI becomes one of the largest producers of Silicon Carbide and Bonded Abrasives in the World. CUMI has its major manufacturing units in India, Russia, China and has operations globally which include countries like Australia, Canada, Middle East, US, Thailand and South Africa, the release said.
