Brit cops to hand out free flip-flops to teetering women drunks!
London, November 28 : Brit police will now be handing out flat shoes to drunken women on their way back home- in a bid to prevent them from spraining their ankles.
Officers on duty will provide the free flip-flops to smashed women in danger of hurting themselves by heading home in stilettos, or by taking off their shoes and risk cutting their bare feet - in a 30,000 pound scheme.
The rubber shoes, which will are to be imprinted with responsible drinking and alcohol limits warnings, will be offered just in time for Christmas parties in Torquay resort, amongst the most sought after destinations for hen and stag parties, reports the Daily Express.
Torbay police chief Superintendent Chris Singer said: "We're hopeful that this new initiative will help to protect dozens of women who are vulnerable to injury after a night out."
While some revellers thought the initiative launched by Safer Communities Torbay was 'a great idea', some campaigners have dismissed the scheme as a total waste of the taxpayers money.
Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "This is an idiotic waste of money. People don't pay their taxes for drunk women to get free flip-flops, they want the police to fight crime.
"The police aren't there to be an emergency supply of flat shoes."
