Assam Rifles fully vigilant: Gen Singh
Dimapur, Nov 28 (UNI) Amid the ongoing terror strikes in Mumbai, Assam Rifles Major General Gurdeep Singh affirmed that the AR was keeping strict vigil all along the international border to check smuggling of arms and ammunition into the country.
Talking to newspersons on his arrival here last evening, the Additional Director General of Assam Rifles (ADGAR) denied that there was lack of efficiency in coordination and checks conducted along the international border and said the Assam Rifles was fully vigilant on the border.
He admitted that large consignments of arms and ammunition, besides contraband, were being smuggled into the country through vast areas of dense forests along the boundary.
''The border areas are basically manned by the Army, which shares intelligence inputs with Assam Rifles. There was no intelligence failure in this regard,'' General Singh claimed.
Earlier, the ADGAR gave away Gallantry Awards to the Junior Commissioned Officers for their distinguished services in various fields.
