Kolkata, Nov 27 (UNI) In line with the statewide "Red Alert" after militants attack in Mumbai, a massive security blanket was thrown today with the decision of constituting a Special Action Force (SAF) for Kolkata to counter any possible terror strike in the "City of Joy." Interacting with newspersons, city Police Commissioner Gautam Mohan Chakraborty informed that the proposal for forming the SAF has already been forwarded to the state government to ensure a fool proof security in Kolkata and the adjoining areas and it was expected to be approved soon.
" We reviewed the security system in and around Kolkata during the day and decided to constitute the SAF to strengthen the security system and instill confidence among the masses," Mr Chakraborty observed.
He, however, said there was no "specific threat" from any quarters in the city under threat perceptions from the middle of this month and appealed to the people to remain alert without getting panicky.
Besides the decision of setting up the SCF, Mr Chakraborty said submission of tenants' details by the landlords to the police now became mandatory to check infiltration of extremists from across the border and take shelter in the city.
Referring to the implementation of the security guidelines in top hotels in the city, he regretted that such advisories were not being followed totally adding the police would soon meet the hotel owners to gurantee cent per cent implementation of the directions.
" We have also undertaken a slew of new measures to empower the the entire security system with new gadgets and are leaving no stone unturned to thwart any ultra moves in Kolkata," the CP maintained.
