Kochi, Nov 27 (UNI) Security has been tightened at Kochi International Airport in the wake of terrorist attack in Mumbai.
An alert in this respect has been received in the airport from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Securities (BCAS) this evening.
Airport Director A C K Nair immediately convened a special meeting of Airport Security Committee here. The officials of CISF, Police, IB, Emigration, Airlines, CIAL attended the meeting which evaluated the security arrangements. The Naka-Morcha has been strengthened at different points of the approach road to the Airport in the city side, to prevent easy and speedy access of vehicles to the airport.
''Quick Reaction Team (QRT) of the CISF has been directed to be more alert to meet any kind of eventualities. The hand baggage and hold baggage of the passengers would be checked thoroughly. Secondary ladder point checking will be introduced. Visitors, passengers and staff entering the airport terminals will be frisked at the entry point. Visitors will not be allowed to carry baggage inside the terminal. Random checking will be held in parking area and approaching vehicles,'' said Mr Nair.
Meanwhile, the Police have been checking the inmates in lodges and verifying their identities. Bomb Squad has been deployed in Aluva Railway Station. Vehicles were being checked and combing was done throughout the night. Information about baggage, vehicles and other materials found abandoned and suspicious movements of strangers should be intimated to the nearest police station, said Dy SP P N Unnirajan.
