Rains lash Pondy, relief measures underway
Puducherry, Nov 27 (UNI)There was no let up in the incessant rainfall with heavy showers lashing the Union Territory, for the fifth consecutive day, throughout the night under the influence of Cyclone Nisha.
Relief measures, including pumping out water from low-lying areas, were hampered due to continuous rainfall.
Thousands of affected people were shifted to community halls and schools with the administration providing them food packets.
A large number of trees were uprooted due to strong winds, disrupting traffic at several places.
PWD officials were taking efforts to remove the fallen trees.
Meanwhile, all schools here remained closed for the fourth successive day today.
Puducherry received 113.4 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 0830 hrs today.
