New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) By-election to the Tamar (ST) assembly constituency in Jharkhand would be held on December 29, the Election Commission announced today.
As per the election schedule, the notification for the by-election will be issued on December 5, 2008. The last date of filing the nomination papers is December 12. The scrutiny of the nominations will be taken up on December 13. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 15 and the polls if required will be held on December 29.
The counting of votes will be taken up on January 2, and the entire poll process will be completed by January 5.
The electoral rolls in respect of the above assembly constituency have been revised with reference to January 1, 2008 as the qualifying date as per earlier delimitation order.
The Commission has decided to use the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in this by-election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps taken to ensure that the poll is conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
The Commission has decided that the voter's identification shall be mandatory in the aforementioned by-election at the time of poll.
In order to ensure that no voter is deprived of his/her franchise, if his/her name figures in the Electoral Rolls, separate instructions will be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters at the time of poll in the by-election.
With the announcement of holding of the by-election for 58-Tamar (ST) assembly constituency, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) shall come into force with immediate effect from today in the districts in which the whole or any part of the Assembly Constituency going for by-election are included. The MCC shall be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the Union and State governments.
