Puducherry, Nov 26 (UNI) The death toll in the rain related incidents in the union territory rose to seven with three more deaths reported today.
According to police Valli of Arasur and an old woman from Karaikal region died following a wall collapse of their respective houses while Jayapal of Eripakkam was electrocuted when he came into cotact with a snapped live wire.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister V Vaithilingam announced that five kg of rice would be given to all yellow colour ration card holders and two litres of kerosene to red colour ration card holders. Ten kg of rice was sanctioned to the red colour ration card holders here yesterday.
Mr Vaithilingam said the official machinery was geared up to meet any eventuality.
Talking to newspersons after a high level meeting here he said as many as one lakh food packets were distributed to the affected and Revenue minister Malladi Krishna Rao along with the Revenue secretary was supervising the relief operations in Karaikal region. All Primary Health Centers(PHCs) were asked to function round the clock, he added.
