Bhopal, Nov 26 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh witnessed a constant increase in polling percentage in six assembly hustings from 1980 to 2003 with the latter year recording the maximum 67.41 per cent.
Official statistics said that 2,55,10,719 members of a 3,78,45,538-strong electorate exercised their franchise in 2003 that witnessed the first Legislative Assembly elections after the bifurcation of Madhya Pradesh and creation of Chhattisgarh on November 1, 2000.
In undivided Madhya Pradesh's 11th assembly polls in 1998, 60.71 per cent of a 4,48,61,760-strong electorate exercised their franchise -- the figure was 2,70,12,396.
Earlier figures were 1993 -- 60.17 per cent, 1990 -- 54.21 per cent, 1985 -- 49.79 per cent and 1980 -- 48.93 per cent.
