Quetta, Nov 26 : Pakistan Senate's Standing Committee on Interior has reportedly admitted the presence of 'countless hidden torture cells' across the country, and called for jail reforms to shut these cells.

Addressing a press conference, Committee Chairman Talha Mahmood said the 'torture cells' were being maintained by intelligence agencies.

These cells should be abolished to ensure a fair trial for the captives irrespective of their crimes, adding that people should be kept in jails and treated according to the law, the Daily Times quoted him as saying.

Talha regretted that many Baloch political activists were being mistreated, which would increase hatred among the Baloch people against the federal government.

The Senator demanded the Balochistan government provide details of the assistance it received in the wake of the October 29 earthquake in the province. He also said the Senate committee would make sure that the funds were not misappropriated.
