Islamabad, Nov 26 : Pakistan's Defence Production Minister Abdul Qayyum Khan Jatoi has reportedly said that his country's scientists would develop a sophisticated system to hit highflying spy planes within a year.

Pakistan already had a radar system to locate and destroy spy planes but it had a limited capacity, he said.

"Concerted efforts are underway to enhance the capacity to target the intruding planes," the Daily Times quoted him as saying in a TV interview.

Meanwhile, another report in the paper quoted the country's air force chief Air Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed as saying that the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was fully capable of stopping missile strikes by pilotless US drones "but it is up to the government to decide whether to do that".

"First this nation, you people, our parliament, our government, has to debate . . . whether we have to engage them diplomatically and politically to resolve it or engage them militarily," he said while speaking to reporters here last evening.
