Murray plans to put on weight at Xmas to bring more power into his game

By Staff

London, Nov.26 ; British tennis star and world number four Andy Murray says that he plans to get fatter at Christmas, and has no intention of losing it.

Murray, who weighs 13 stone at present, says that he wants to put on weight to bring even more power to his game. He is looking to put on up to eight pounds.

"I'll do similar stuff in Miami to what I did last year. But my fitness levels are a lot better than they were, so I'll be able to run a bit faster, lift heavier weights. I'll try and work harder than I did last year," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

"I'll have to make sure I eat a lot of protein so I can put on weight - which should give me a little bit more power in my shots. I'm going to have to eat loads to try and put on weight if I'm training four or five hours a day, so I'll eat a lot of sushi," he added.

After preparing in Miami, Murray will return to London for a few days before spending Christmas with his family in Dunblane.

He plays an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi on New Year's Day, then competes in the Qatar Open before flying to Melbourne for the opening Grand Slam of the year, starting on January 19.

"I just need to make sure that I'm even stronger than this year. In the US Open, I was a little bit tired in the final - maybe because of the match with Rafael Nadal - but I need to make sure my recovery after long matches is a little bit better," he said.
