Valsad, Nov 26 (UNI) Parthiv Patel scored his second 50 of the match as Gujarat batted out the final day of their Ranji Trophy Super League Group 'A' tie against Delhi as the match petered out to a tame draw here today.
Gujarat got three points due to their first innings lead, while Delhi, the defending champions, had to be satisfied with just one point from this match.
At the end of the match, B Thaker with 37 and I Choudhary with one were at the crease with Gujarat on 259 for six.
Gujarat, who had taken a 36-run first innings lead, resumed at 76 for no loss and they only needed to bat out the last day to take the first innings points from this match.
Delhi on the other hand needed quick breakthroughs to try and create pressure on the Gujarat batsmen and hope for a collapse.
The visitors, began well on the last morning when they got rid of both the opening batsmen with the addition of just 11 runs on the board.
P Awana struck the first blow when he got rid of Nilesh Modi being caught in the slips by Aakash Chopra for 27 with Gujarat on 81 for one. The other opener P Panchal then fell two short of his 50 when he was trapped in front by S Narwal to leave the home side on 87 for two.
However, Parthiv joining hands with Neeraj Patel steadied the Gujarat innings putting on 107 runs for the third wicket to finish of any hopes of Delhi trying to make a match of it. Neeraj made 45 before being caught and bowled by C Nanda for 45. Parthiv also fell soon after for a well made 71, which came after facing 119 balls and was studded with six boundaries.
Brief scores : Gujarat first innings 350, Gujarat second innings 259 for six (P Patel 71, P Panchal 48, N Patel 45, S Narwal 2-31, C Nanda 2-79) drew with Delhi first innings 314.
