TN: 50 mechanised fishing trawlers damaged
Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, Nov 26: More than fifty mechanised fishing trawlers and several country boats were damaged as tidal waves hit the coasts here today.sound adament of not to letting her son to return to any further voyage.
Official sources said the mechanised fishing boats anchored in Rameswaram jetty, Thirupalaikudi, Pamban, Thondi, Mandapam, Keezhakkarai, Devipattinam suffered extensive damages due to tidal waves. Several country boats were reportedly submerged in sea water. The exact number of boats damaged would be known after an enumeration by the authorities of state fisheries department.
Meanwhile, people residing near the seashore in Therkuvadi, Pamban, North Chinnapalam, Mahamadiyarpuram, Kundukkal, Muhundarayar Chathiram coastal villages were evacuated to safer places after sea water entered into their locality due to rough sea.
Several people took shelter in schools, government buildings and cyclone shelters.
Six villages in the district were marooned by rain waters and the residents were moved to safer places, the sources added.
