EC issues show cause notice to Deora on cut in fuel prices remark
New Delhi, Nov 26 (UNI) The Election Commission today served a show cause notice to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora on his remarks that fuel prices will be cut after the conclusion of Assembly elections next month.
The Commission has also sent a similar notice to the Secretary for Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on the same issue, asking them to explain their position before it by 1500 hrs tomorrow.
Earlier, the BJP had lodged a complaint with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) N Gopalaswami over the issue, stating that the statement amounted to violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The Commission has sought an explanation from Mr Deora over the reported remarks.
Mr Deora had yesterday said the government would cut petrol and diesel prices after Assembly elections are over on December 24.
