Madurai, Tamil Nadu, Nov 26: Sleuths of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a Block Development Officer on bribery charges at Kallikudi near Thirumangalam, here late this evening.
Police sources said the official Balasubramanian demanded a sum of Rs 2,000 each from four people for sanctioning financial grant under Indira Gandhi Group Housing Scheme in Kallikudi panchayat union. After bargaining, the BDO reduced the bribe amount to Rs 1,000 each. He was paid Rs 500 each as an advance by the four people.
However, annoyed over the attitude of the corrupt official, one of them complained the matter to the DVAC in which a special team of the DVAC caught red-handed Balasubramanian while accepting the remaining amount in his office at Kallikudi.
Immediate after the arrest, the DVAC men conducted thorough search in his office and seized some incriminating documents.
