Student will be discharged only after recovering: dean

Chennai, Nov 25 (UNI) The Dean of the Government General Hospital (GH) Dr Kalanidhi today told the Madras High Court that the law college student Bharathi Kannan, who was admitted to the hospital after the group clash among students on November 12, would not be discharged untill he recovers completely from his ailment.

When a petition, filed by Karuppiah, father of Bharathi Kannan, came up for hearing before Justice Ms K Suguna, GH Dean and Esplanade police station Inspector filed a counter as per the direction of the court.

The Dean submitted that there was no presesure from any quarter to discharge the student and the medical authorities had been carefully treating him in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The Inspector of Police, in his counter, submitted that he had not exerted any pressure on anybody to discharge the student.

Moreover, police had not registered any case against him.

With this, the Court recorded the submissions and treated the case as closed.

On November 21, the court had restrained the government hospital authorities from discharging the ailing student, who was brutally attacked in the group clash in the Dr Ambedkar Law College campus.

Admitting the writ petition the court ordered that the student should not be discharged from the hospital till today and directed the Esplanade Police Inspector to file a counter.
