Saharsa, Nov 25 (UNI) At least seven peope were feared drowned in a boat tragedy in Sursand river near Sohat ghat under Saur market police station here.
Official sources here today said the mishap took place yesterday when a country-made boat, ferrying 25 people, was caught in the high current of the river water and overturned.
Seven people were feared drowned while the rest swam to safety.
Three bodies had so far been recovered while four others were still missing. Divers had been pressed into service to trace the missing bodies.
The ill-fated boat was ferrying the passengers to Bhaktiya village.
Meanwhile, District Magistrate R Lakshmanan said the next of kin of each of the deceased had been given an immediate financial help of Rs 1,500. He said the family members of each of the deceased would get compensation of Rs one lakh.
