New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) Mrs Asha Yogi, the wife of the BJP's candidate from the Rajinder Nagar assembly seat Puran Chand Yogi who allegedly committed suicide on November 16, will contest the seat when it will go to the polls on December 13.
After long deliberations last night, BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley and BJP's Delhi Chief Ministerial candidate Vijay Kumar Malhotra decided on the name of Mrs Yogi, party sources said.
Demands were also being raised by some sections of the saffron party that Mrs Yogi be given the party ticket as the sympathy wave generated after Yogi's death would steer her to a landslide victory.
The election to the seat was earlier countermanded following Yogi's death but later rescheduled to December 13.
The last date of nominations is today and scrutiny would be done tomorrow. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is November 28.
According to amended rules, only a BJP candidate can file a nomination and the candidates of other parties would remain the same.
The rest of the 69 seats of the Delhi Assembly will go to the polls on November 29 and counting of votes will be taken up on December 8.
Yogi allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his Inderpuri residence in South-West district.
Yogi, 73, three-time legislator from Rajinder Nagar in Central Delhi, was found hanging from the ceiling fan by his wife.
