Pondy Speaker convenes meeting on security measures
Puducherry, Nov 25 (UNI) Puducherry Speaker R Radhakrishnan today convened a high-level meeting to strengthen security of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly building.
Talking to newspersons here, Mr Radhakrishnan said the Centre had recommended to strengthen security of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly and today's meeting was held as per direction of the Union Home Ministry.
Chief Minister V Vaithilingam, Home Minister E Valsaraj, Deputy Speaker A V Sreedharan, Legislative Assembly Secretary, Chief Secretary, DGP, DIG and SSPs were among others, who participated in the meeting at the Speaker's Chamber.
The meeting decided to put metal detectors and surveillance cameras at the entrance gate and to issue passes to the visitors. It was also proposed not to allow any vehicles into the Assembly premises and to park the vehicles on the Gingee road, he said.
Mr Radhakrishnan said security has been tightened to combat terrorism.
Referring to the agitations held in front of the Legislative Assembly, the Speaker said in democracy everyone was entitled to express his or her ventilated grievances, but it should be adhered to within the four walls.
