New Delhi, Nov 25 (UNI) Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today tore into the Congress over terrorism and inflation in the country, saying under its regime neither the lives of people nor their pockets were safe and issued the party a warning that the people would not tolerate any government which weighed terrorism in two different parts of the country in two different scales.
Addressing a public rally here this evening, Mr Modi said despite being informed a well ten days in advance of the Delhi serial blasts on September 13, the Centre as well as the Delhi government did not do anything to stop them and Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil instead of acting fast after the explosions on the fateful day indulged in a ''fashion parade'', which was nothing but shameful.
Mounting a scalding attack on the Maharashtra government over the arrests of Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit and slapping of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act(MCOCA) on them in the Malegaon blasts, Mr Modi, in his 15-minute address, said the state government had something to hide as far as their arrests was concerned as their joint interrogations were not being allowed by them.
''When any Muslim is arrested in Gujarat in any terrorist activity and my government wants to slap a case on him under a law equivalent to MCOCA, then the Centre government describes that law as draconian and cruel. But when the Maharashtra government does the same thing, not even a word is uttered. Terrorism cannot be allowed to be weighed in two different scales in two different parts of the country. Terrorism cannot be allowed to become a tool of votebank politics of the Congress government in any part of the country,'' he thundered.
''I ask UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit that being women themselves do they find it right what is happening to the Sadhvi and the kind of harassment she is being meted out?'' He said any state which once changed the Congress government never allowed it to stage a comeback there, whether it is Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka or Tamil Nadu. ''The people of Bihar are ready to tolerate Lalu Prasad, but they simply cannot tolerate a Congress government in the state. The Congress has become a burden on the country,'' he ridiculed.
Enumerating the achievements of his government in Gujarat during the last seven years, he said the state has scaled new heights during his regime and today not only the country but the entire world was talking about it. ''During the last seven years electricity charges were not hiked even once and see Delhi where the Congress government is at the helm of affairs, electricity charges were raised as many as five times during the last ten years.'' Recalling his meeting with Ms Dikshit some time ago during a dinner party given by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said, ''I had, in passing, mentioned to her the forthcoming Delhi elections and she, which I took jokingly, asked me not to come to Delhi for electioneering. But now I realise she was serious as the Delhi government today cancelled my two public meeting, including one in the New Delhi constituency where she is contesting. Today I realise, she was scared of me and had not joked with me when she had asked me not to come to Delhi. What kind of democracy it is where one party can campaign at will, while another's path is littered with administrative obstacles.'' He asked the people of Delhi to vote for the BJP if they wanted the development and security as good and high as in Gujarat.
On the occasion, Mr Malhotra along with his wife, daughter, granddaughter and local leaders of the Kalkaji area was present.
