SHILLONG, Nov 25 (UNI) Meghalaya-based journalists today strongly condemned the assassination of two journalists --Rishikanta Konsam of Imphal Free Press and Jagajit Saikia of Amar Asom -- in Manipur and Assam.
In an emergency meeting held at the Shillong Press Club here, the journalists observed a two minute silence in honour of the two reporters.
The journalists also noted with dismay the increasing instances of killings and attacks on journalists in the North Eastern region.
The Meghalaya journalists also demanded immediate intervention of the Assam and Manipur government to ensure security of journalists working in these two states.
The meeting also felt that it was the bounden duty of the governments to create a conducive atmosphere to enable working journalists to discharge their duties in utmost safety.
The Shillong Press Club also passed a resolution expressing solidarity with the Imphal Press Club, Guwahati Press Club and the media fraternity in general in their endeavour to solicit justice for the slain journalists.
