Low pressure likely to intensify into depression
Chennai, Nov 25 (UNI) Yesterday's low pressure area over Sri Lanka and neighbourhood persisted and is likely to intensify into a depression bringing heavy to very heavy rains in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu.
Weather office sources said the low pressure still persists and is likely to intensify into a depression.
Under its influence, heavy rains with extremely very heavy rains were likely to occur in coastal districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Ramanathapuram.
Isolated heavy to very heavy rains were also likely to occur over South Tamil Nadu and in the districts of north coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the next 48 hours.
Isolated rainfall was also likely to occur over interior Tamil Nadu during the same period.
Chennai would have generally cloudy skies with a few spells of showers or thundershowers. The surface winds would be strong and gusty at times.
With weathermen forecasting heavy rains, danger signal number three was hoisted at the Nagpattinam port and fishermen were advised against venturing into the sea.
Schools and colleges in various districts including, Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam declared a holiday for tomorrow.
