Hyderabad, Nov 25 (UNI) The Lok Satta today described as unprincipled and opportunistic the understanding between the Left Parties and the Telugu Desam Party(TDP) to contest the coming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh together.
Talking to newspersons here, Lok Satta party's working committee members Ankem Prabhakara Rao and Lakshman Balaji alleged that forging an alliance to garner more seats and votes and to pull down one party from power merely to enthrone another, reeks of rank opportunism. An alliance should be anchored in people-oriented policies and not in narrow self-interest, they added.
They said elections should be treated as an opportunity to maintain nobility in politics, mobilise public opinion and transform peoples'lives. Instead, elections and politics have become a mere arithmetic exercise and a cynical power game, they alleged.
Alliances based on programmes, policies and politics that usher in a change in people's lives was the need of the hour, they added.
