HC reserves order in sugar cane price fixation case
Allahabad, Nov 25 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today reserved its judgment after hearing the parties at length on a writ petition, challenging the validity of a government order, whereby Uttar Pradesh government had fixed the prices of sugarcane for the session 2008-09.
The UP government on October 18, 2008 had fixed the prices of various varities of sugar cane after assessing the entire situation for the same.
The bench consisting of Justice Arun Tondon and Justice Dilip Gupta reserved its order on a writ petition filed by west UP sugar mills association, Meerut and others. The petitioners in the writ petition has alleged that state government has fixed the price of sugar cane as Rs 140 per quintal for session 2008-09 arbitrarily and no guidelines were prescribed, while fixing the sugar cane price.
The plea of the UP government in the Court was that the government has fixed the price of sugar cane after assessing the entire situation and the same was fixed by the state legislature.
